Brittle hair can happen as a result of a number of factors. Your hair might be subject to a lot of stress from constant sun exposure or chemical treatments. But with modern women of today, it is mostly due to heat styling as everyday use of curling irons, blow dryers, and hair straighteners is fairly common. Brittle hair is also accompanied by frizziness and tends to become dull and lifeless.

As soon as you see the signs of brittle hair, it is important to take the necessary steps needed to reverse those signs. The kind of treatment to get will vary depending on the extent of damage. But if you want to address the problem within, rather than just focusing on what is visible from the surface, it is important that you go perform restructuring treatment on hair.

Get a Healthy Trim

When hair is damaged, sometimes the only remedy for it is to trim them. That way, you do not allow the damaged strands to run towards the root. Trim off the damaged ends (wherein the signs are initially visible) so that you can get rid of the damage and facilitate in a healthy re-growth. In some cases, it is no longer just split or damaged ends but dead hair. There is no way you can salvage them once damaged.

Homemade Treatment for Brittle Hair

Witch hazel is an herb recognised for its natural astringent benefits. This herb is a great natural remedy for reconstructing brittle hair due to this property. You can therefore use this as part of the reconstruction process for brittle hair. Use cotton ball to absorb an adequate amount of witch hazel then pat it onto the scalp. This will eliminate excess oil from your scalp that is preventing your hair from retaining moisture. When you are done, simply rinse the mixture off the scalp. Avoid using conditioner. Instead, apply leave-in conditioner to the ends only.

You can also use another homemade restructuring treatment to address brittle hair using natural oils. According to hair care experts, the best kinds of oils to deal with brittle hair include avocado oil, olive oil or jojoba oil. You can therefore choose from any of these three, whichever is available.

A standard recipe you can follow is to mix two egg yolks with two tablespoons of olive oil (or any oil of your choice), a couple of avocados and half a cup of honey. Apply the mixture onto hair and massage it thoroughly. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes. You can also opt to do this during daytime and with a shower cap on, you can walk a bit under the sun. The natural vitamins from the sun will also enrich the hair and aid in faster absorption.

The process of restructuring brittle hair is not a one-time procedure. You have to take consistent measures to ensure that every strand is fortified with essential nutrients needed to restore tip-top shape.

First off, you need to invest in a moisture-rich shampoo and conditioner specially formulated for damaged hair. This will fix brittle hair in two methods: 1) it strengthens the strand from within and 2) infuses moisture into each strand. After every shower, you can also apply a few drops of olive oil to the scalp and ends of hair for added nourishment.

You must also take added preventive measures to fight brittle hair, as well as aid in the restructuring process. For instance, forgo use of heat styling tools while you repair hair structure. You need to also stay away from hairstyles that tug at your hair with a high level of friction, such as knots, buns, and ponytails.
