London Fashion Week SS18 is done and in the books. But it left quite an imprint in the fashion and beauty industry with many stellar and surprising trends that put the trend-spotters on their toes.
The New York Fashion Week runway shows brought a distinctive theme to the beauty and makeup trend for this year: the “no makeup” makeup look. Indeed, several of the shows featured models off the runway with nearly a naked look to them. But the London Fashion Week SS18 shows are a complete turnaround of that. While there are still a few shows who kept it simple and minimalist in approach, there were a lot of creativity and trend-setting looks that were out of the norm.
Indeed, the creative artists and hairstylists working behind the scenes at the fashion shows at the London Fashion Week SS18 runway did not hold back. Hence, you will be in a beauty euphoria with a wide range of inspiration to take with you for the next season.
Daks S/S 2018
The concept of vinyl shine is evident in the runway shows at London Fashion Week this year. This is a makeup approach that focuses on adding a sweaty skin look with a hint of colour to the eyes and the cheeks. Some makeup artists refer to it as “spot lighting”, which takes the best elements from highlighting and strobing into one. The Dask S/S 2018 shows were the perfect example of this trend.
Eudon Choi S/S 18
Statement and graphic eye liners were a common theme in the London Fashion Week SS18 shows. The fierce feline looks with some of the most fashion-forward eyeliner styles include the Versus Versace and Eudon Choi looks. The Tommy Hilfiger show also had the models strutting the runways in dramatic eye.
Ralph & Russo S/S 2018
The overly dramatic sparkle is gone- the London Fashion Week SS18 runways were all about the scaled down glitter. The trick with makeup artists experimenting with the subtle use of glitter is to focus on one area only. For example, in the Ralph & Russo show, you can see that the glitters were focused on the under eye area, near the tear duct. It instantly adds a sophisticated touch to the beauty looks on the models.
Versus Versace S/S 2018
The South of France beauty was the inspiration for the Temperley show in this year’s London Fashion Week show. The designer Alice Temperley wanted to evoke the old Hollywood glitz and glamour with the designs showcased at the show. At the same time, the hair and makeup team came up with a look that would complement the pieces from the designer. Dewy skin, red lips, and bandanas as hair accessories.. these were the prevailing theme at the show.
Preen S/S 2018
At the Preen by Thornton Bregazzi’s SS17, we’ve seen one of the most creative and unique braided hairstyle yet. The inspiration behind the look was to create an imperfect look. The stylists wanted to highlight that raw edginess and lived in kind of style. The collection and the looks showcased at the runway wanted to celebrate beautiful mistakes and imperfections. And this braided hairstyle was the perfect way to showcase that.
Shrimps S/S 2018
Are you tired of the same old lipstick trends? Be inspired by the lip glitter treatment at the Shrimps presentation during the London Fashion Week SS18 show. This was a creation of makeup artist Lucy Burt, who named her creation as “after-party lips”.
